SEAG - The Schools' Entrance Assessment Group
The Schools’ Entrance Assessment Group (SEAG) is open to all post-primary schools in Northern Ireland which use academic selection for all or part of their Year 8 intake. SEAG includes Controlled and Voluntary Grammar Schools and Integrated Schools in its membership.
What are the Y7 plans for SEAG and NON SEAG pupils?
Beginning next week, the Y7 pupils will split into a test preparation class and a non-test preparation class for 3 one hour sessions per week only. A rough timetable is outlined below (times may vary). Pupils will have 2 papers weekly (one in class, one home).
Monday 11am – 12pm Miss Millar (test pupils sit SEAG Paper)
Miss Laidlaw (non-test pupils are taught together)
Tuesday 11am-12pm Miss Millar (test pupils sit SEAG Paper)
Miss Laidlaw (non-test pupils are taught together)
Thursday 11am-12pm Miss Millar (test pupils sit SEAG Paper)
Miss Laidlaw (non-test pupils re taught together)
Please note, Miss Laidlaw and Miss Millar will alternate group weeks.
Year 7 test preparing pupils will be working with resources supplied to school (resourced by Mr Armstrong and the Y7 staff) during their teaching sessions. These are like the resources started in Y6.
What support can I give my SEAG pupil?
You are very aware that the support and help you give your children is of utmost importance. The Year 7 teachers will ensure your child will have the 2 papers home each weekend. This is your chance to also help your child in areas they have found difficult. Although the papers will have been marked and consolidated with the teacher, please help by putting some time aside to go over unfamiliar or difficult areas. Remember that the Y7 Literacy and Numeracy fact books are really useful booklets to refer to when looking for key facts and concepts.
My child is not sitting SEAG.
This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to receive differentiated and targeted work planned for and supported by one of the Year 7 teachers. The staff will work together to target areas of learning that will most benefit your child. Also remember that the Y7 Literacy and Numeracy fact books are really useful booklets to refer to when looking for key facts and concepts which your child will benefit from revising.
SEAG Club
As you are also aware, we also run an after-school club for SEAG practice each week. If you need any more information about this, please speak with your class teacher.
Thank you for your continued support and if you need any further information, please do not hesitate to contact the Y7 teachers or Mr Armstrong at any time.
